.Net Developer Market September 2022

The .Net market’s growth from 2021 has continued into 2022. The demand for .Net specialists has consistently remained high, with companies typically finding Mid-Level Engineers, Senior Engineers, and Technical Leads the most challenging roles. This is due to the abundance of opportunities in the market for candidates to choose from at these levels.

Over the last 6 months, salaries have slightly increased at some levels like Mid-Level Engineers and Technical Leads, due to the demand for candidates at this level. Salaries for Technical Architects, Principal Engineers, and Senior Engineers have largely remained consistent over the last 6 months. This is an important factor to consider when hiring for Q3 and Q4 of 2022.

The technology stack that is most sought after is largely similar to recent times with an emphasis on .Net Core (.Net 5 and 6), SQL, and cloud technologies. Although there have been changes in companies’ willingness to upskill in other sought-after areas like Microservices or Docker, this is a very common trend that has become evident in 2022 and allowed companies more flexibility in their hiring. Furthermore, the .Net market has become more diverse in terms of which cloud technology is used and AWS has now gotten closer to Azure. Importantly for companies, the openness to explore candidates with other cloud technologies widens the pool of candidates to choose from.

Due to the salary increase in 2021 at Senior Engineer level, it has emerged that companies are now requiring people at this level to carry a lot of responsibilities in the design, development and deployment of code. This has allowed candidates at this level to grow their skillset in multiple areas.

Many of the .Net houses continue to operate in an Agile methodology with teams comprising of a lead (Principal Engineer or Technical Lead), 3 to 5 engineers, a Product Owner and a QA Automation Engineer. Depending on the product needs, these teams vary in their specialism, with engineers in these teams either being backend focused, full stack or a combination of specialist frontend and backend engineers.

The goal for .Net professionals continues to be the ambition to improve skills and knowledge in the latest technologies. More so, the opportunity to work with a technical team that they can learn from while also having a collaborative culture that provides them with the autonomy to share their ideas and opinions. This is particularly important in Senior Engineer roles and above. This eagerness to grow and expand skillsets has created an amazing pool of people involved in .Net in Ireland.

The contract market in the .Net space has remained consistent over the last two years with day rates increasing to match the demand in the market. The abundance of contractors in Dublin and surrounding areas allows contracting to be a viable option with many companies using the contracting option to kick start or complete important projects.
